INTRODUCTION

The Forum on Creativity in the Arts, Science & Technology is an annual event jointly organised by the Tan Kah Kee Foundation, National Arts Council and Singapore National Academy of Science. The Forum has national-level endorsement, as its Patron is the Singapore Minister for Defence (previously Minister for Education), Mr Teo Chee Hean.

The Forum, which deals with creativity as a common and key element in the Arts, Science and Technology, focuses on the issue of how creativity can stimulate interaction in the Arts, Science and Technology and lead to new ideas and discoveries, creative works, innovations and inventions. The Forum also aims to promote greater interaction between practitioners in the Arts, Science and Technology.

For the past years, the forums had been successful in bringing together a number of eminent speakers both from overseas and Singapore to speak on their own views on creativity and their personal experiences with creativity in their own fields.

In addition to the keynote addresses, there were also presentations by international corporations, which are renowned for their creative products, on how creativity has enabled them to create these products, combining the Arts, Science and Technology, as well as presentations by students and staff of educational institutions in Singapore, on their creative projects.

To round off the Forum, there was a panel discussion where the Forum participants engaged in an active and fruitful discussion with the keynote speakers on issues addressed in their speeches.

"We believe that such an event will make a useful contribution to our national effort in fostering and stimulating creativity and innovation. We feel strongly that there is a need to put particular attention on encouraging creativity in the Arts, Science and Technology, as these three key areas are the wellsprings which provide the creative ideas, innovations and inventions so vital to our nation's continued economic, commercial and industrial progress."
